| Vice Minister of Education Talked on WTO and Higher Education at USTC |
Zhang Xinsheng, vice minister of the Ministry of Education delivered a speech on WTO and China's higher education at USTC on July 16. During the two-hour report, Zhang analyzed the status quo of China's higher education from several aspects including globalization and knowledge-based economy, and the impact of WTO on higher education. Coupled with modern education concept and piles of data and documents, Zhang pointed out that educational globalization has become a crux of economic globalization. The change from traditional education concept to the modern one and the improvement of the overall education quality will impact directly on the innovative capability and prospect of the whole nation. He said, at present, there're bunches of problems waiting to be addressed. For example, the education concept, content of the education and the teaching method are deviated from the reality; the education system and mechanism can not meet the demand of the deepening reforms in the economic, politic and technological systems; the quality of China's higher education are still a long distance away from that of other countries. Zhang emphasized that the settlement of these problems comes from the comprehensive and scientific analysis of new situations in China's higher education after the country's accession to WTO and the timely adjustment of policies. With those enormous opportunities brought about by WTO entry, the educators should convert challenges into driving forces and take the initiative. | |
