| ICM Held Satellite Meeting at USTC |
| The Satellite Meeting of the 2002 International Congress of Mathematics (ICM) on August 30 attracted batches of well-known specialists and scholars from the US, Canada, Israel, Germany, Japan, India, Malaysia and dozens of domestic universities, including Yangle, the renowned mathematician and academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences . The four-day event centered on the discussion of Geometric Function Theory in Several Complex Variables. The field has developed rapidly over the past decade. The American Mathematics Union has named it as the special topic of its annual meeting since 1993. During this meeting, the participants held 31 academic reports on the topic. Sources showed that, among the 22 Chinese scholars who gave 45-minute reports to the just concluded 24th International Congress of Mathematics, five are the alumni of the USTC. The ICM has been long regarded as the "Olympic of Mathematics". The deliveries of a 1-hour report and a 45-minute invitation report are deemed as sky-high honor among world mathematicians. | |
