USTC Vice-president Hou Jianguo Attends the 9th Annual Hong Kong Science Institution Conference


At the invitation of the Organizing Committee of the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) 9th Annual Conference, USTC vice-president Hou Jianguo attended the 9th Annual Conference of the HKIS held in Hong Kong on Nov. 10th, 2001 and made his presentation on "Characterization and Manipulation of Anaostructures by a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope". Also present at the conference were government officials, university presidents from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and well-known scientists from around the world. Prof. Hou Jianguo was the only one of the scientists from mainland China who made an academic report at the meeting.
HKIS was established in 1992 to foster the development of science in Hong Kong and to facilitate the development of links with scientific communities in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and overseas. The institution has nearly 400 members covering the fields of physical science, life science, engineering science and mathematics. The theme of the conference focused on the science's role in the economic development and transformation of Hong Kong.
