For strengthening the students of the Straits to acquaint with each other, USTC and Taiwan-based Tshinghua University launch Exchange Students Project---Lianfa Science and Technology-Scholar Wu Daqiu Exchange Students Project. Both colleges appoint students to the other side to carry out summer vocation research and communications activities. This item is backed by Taiwan-based Lianfa Science and Technology Education Foundation. On March, 2005, USTC Dean’s office and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao Affairs office carry out exchange students’ election and finally there are 5 students getting this precious chance. According to the arrangement, these exchange students come to both universities to develop monographic studies from 15th, July to 29th, August. The five students from USTC receive warm entertainments and considerate arrangements. The papers they written obtain the highly praises from tutors. Moreover, USTC students friendly communicate with the Taiwan public as to improve the youngsters of the Straits understandings of each other. The students from Taiwan-based Tshinghua University individually do monographic study in Life Science Department, Chemistry Science School and Management School. The office concerned organizes these exchange students to visit the renowned relics. The students all express the trip is worthwhile because they obtain more and deeper information about politics, culture and economy of China mainland.
During the session, Taiwan-based Tshinghua University secretary-general Prof. Chen Minquan pays to the special trip to USTC on 4th, August. Heads concerned from Dean's Office and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao Affairs Office witness the conversation. Two sides introduce universities’ general situations and information of exchange student activities. Both hopes to keep such kind of project go on next year. Through developing exchange students project, they can make contributions to the Chinese nation's prosperity.
