Prof. Chao Chung-Yao (Zhao Zhong-Yao) is a great physicist and pioneer in nuclear physics. He was born in Zhuji county, Zhejiang Province on June 27, 1902.
Prof. Chao devoted all his life to scientific research and education. He made much important contribution to the development of China's nuclear physics and high-energy physics, and the cultivation of personnel. He is one of the pioneers and founding fathers of China's scientific research in nuclear physics, neutron physics, accelerator and cosmic radiation.
Prof. Chao is a great patriot, a man of righteousness, a man of fortitude and a man of simplicity. He always sticks to truth, hard working, preciseness, and innovation. His unfathomable knowledge and affable character wins him much respect and honor from his colleagues and students.
The year of 2002 is the 100th anniversary for the birth of Prof. Chao. The school of sciences of USTC will organize the Centennial Commemoration for Birth of Prof. Chao Chung-Yao at the entrustment of Prof. ZHU Qingshi, President of USTC and academician of CAS and TWAS.
