The 2001 Ericsson Cup for Top Ten Chinese Scientific Achievements
Since 1985, the Structure Research Laboratory (SRL) of the University of Science and Technology of China, Academia Sinica, has become one of the open laboratories of Chinese Academia Sinica. In 1999, the SRL got into the CAS Knowledge Innovation Programme. The chairman, Prof. HOU Jianguo, is responsible for the overall work. There is a vigorous and high-quality academic research group with 29 members including 28 senior researchers and 8 winners of the National Foundation for Outstanding Young Scientists in the SRL.
The SRL has concentrated its interest on the following research areas: high-Tc superconductors; colossal magnetoresistance materials and the related physical effect; synthesis, structural characteristics and properties of nanomaterials; thin films with special functions; physical chemistry of single molecule; computing material physics. The research aim of the SRL is to find new phenomena, study new laws, and explore new materials by studying the structures, the properties and the low-dimensional quantum confinement effect of condensed matters under special experimental conditions.
The SRL is now well equipped with modern equipment and sample preparation facilities for investigating structural, physical and chemical properties of condensed matters. The special experimental conditions include high magnetic field (40T), ultra-low temperature (5mk) and high pressure (160katm). | |
