????From Sept. 29th to Oct. 1st, the 8th Annual Meeting and the 11th Meeting of Board of Directors of the AEARU was held at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The USTC delegation led by president Zhu Qingshi attended the meeting. Present at the meeting were forty-three delegates from 15 member universities.
????The AEARU is an association composed of 17 prestigious research-intensified universities in the region of East Asia and also one of the most active regional organizations of universities in the world. The AEARU organizes symposiums and summer camps annually to promote the cooperation and exchanges between member universities. There is a chairman, a vice-chairman and a board of directors in the AEARU. Vice-chairman of the association is elected by member universities and will automatically become chairman of the association in the next tenure of office for two years. President of Taiwan University, Professor Chen Weizhao, is currently chairman of the association.
During the meeting, all the delegates made a summary about the 7 workshops in the fields of web technology, materials science, biology, etc. and the two summer camps held in the previous year and determined the agenda for the activities in 2003. USTC will host a summer camps, the 9th Annual Meeting and the 13th Meeting of the Board of Directors in 2003. Questions on how to further cooperation and personnel exchanges between member universities and how to promote cooperation with other international organizations were also discussed at the meeting.
