On the afternoon of Nov. 2nd, a coordination meeting was held by the Hefei CPC Committee, Hefei Municipality and USTC to tackle the challenges related to the acquisition of the land adjacent to the north gate of the USTC eastern campus. In attendance were Mr. Che Jun, member of the CPC Standing Committee of Anhui Province and general secretary of the CPC Committee of Hefei Municipality, Mr. Guo Wanqing, mayor and deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of Hefei Municipality, Mr. Li Decai, executive mayor of Hefei Municipality, Mr. Anlie, general secretary of the CPC Committeein the suburban Hefei, Mr. Wu Guangchun, head of the district, Mr. Tang Honggao, USTC Party general secretary, Mr. Wang Guangxun, USTC vice-president, Mr. Pan Zhongxiao, USTC secretary general, Mr. Yang Wenzhu, USTC president assistant, Mr.Wang Keqiang, USTC assistant secretary general, and persons in charge of related departments.
At the meeting, Mr. Che Jun said that it was obligatory for Anhui Province, especially for Hefei Municipality, to back the construction work of USTC. The requisition of the land outside the north gate of the USTC eastern campus satisfies the demand of USTC construction work and conforms to the planning and comprehensive ecological improvements of the city. He demanded to see that the land requisition work be carried out in line with the requirements of the CPC Committee of Anhui Province and Anhui Provincial Government. Mr. Li Decai and persons in charge of suburban Hefei promised to implement the land requisition work as required.
The meeting clarified that USTC will provide 50,000,000 RMB yuan and go through the necessary formalities as quickly as possible and that Hefei Municipal Government will be responsible for the coordination work to pull down the houses currently on the land, moving the occupants to other housing. It was agreed that the land be handed over to USTC for use before January, 2002.
The meeting also urged the return of land illegally occupied by the Guang Ming Paper Box Factory on the USTC western campus to its rightful owner.
On behalf of USTC, Mr. Tang Honggao expressed his thanks to Hefei Municipality for its support in the construction work and development of USTC. He added that USTC would cooperate with Hefei Municipal Government in the course of the land requisition work. | | |
