The 3rd National Workshop on Electro (Magneto-) Rheological Fluids and Its Application Held in USTC

The 3rd National Workshop on ERF/MRF and Its Application was held in USTC from Oct. 27th to 29th, 2001. More than 50 experts, scholars and postgraduate students from the Physical Institute of the CAS, Fudan University, Qinghua University, Northwest Industrial Univeristy, Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Haerbin Industrial University, Taiwan University, Chongqing Instrumental Materials Research Institute, Department of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering of USTC and Department of Chemistry of USTC attended the workshop as full members.
In attendance of the workshop were USTC vice-president Hou Jianguo, deputy director of the Division of Science and Technology Prof. Ye Zhongfu, dean of the School of Engineering Sciences of USTC and CAS academician Prof. Wu Xiaoping, assistant dean of the School of Engineering Sciences of USTC Prof. He Shiping and persons in charge of related USTC departments. Vice-president Hou Jianguo and CAS academician Wu Xiaoping made congratulatory speeches on behalf of USTC and the School of Engineering Sciences.
Prof. Zhou Luwei of Fudan University made his presentation on "The Advancement in the Research of ERF/MRF", in which he comprehensively exhausted the frontier problems and latest development in the research field, introduced the International Conference on ERF/MRF held in France and pointed out the direction of possible research breakthrough. Prof. Lu Kunquan of the Physical Institute of the CAS made his presentation on "The Research and Advancement in Soft Materials", in which he depicted a clear picture of the research field and explored the significance and possible application of the research achievements. Altogether more than 40 papers were distributed to participants in the workshop for exchange. The participants exchanged views on the designing, instrument, testing, evaluation, solidification theories and structural evolution of the ERF/MRF material. Preparatory work was also done at the workshop for the 2003 International Workshop on ERF/MRF and Its Application which would be held in China.
