The Key Laboratory of Quantum Information was founded by the CAS to develop the new interdisciplinary subject of quantum information. It has received lots of support from "The CAS Scientific Innovation Project" and "The National Fundamental Research Program". Now there are 19 staffs, 5 post-doctoral researchers, 5 visiting scholars and 22 graduate students in the lab. The research of the lab focuses on the following areas: 1.Quantum cryptography and quantum security: quantum cryptography realization in optical fibres; quantum cryptograph networks; new type of quantum secure systems, such as quantum authentication and quantum bit commitment. 2. Quantum communication technology: entangled two-photon source with high production rates; operations on quantum entanglement; quantum repeaters; entanglement swapping and purification; quantum communication complexity. 3.Fundamental research on quantum computation: nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computation; new methods of realizing quantum computation. 4.Interaction between light and cold atoms: Bose-Einstein condensation; entanglement between cold atoms; quantum teleportation of states of atoms. 5.Fundamental theory of quantum information: quantum cloning; quantum coding; quantum algorithm; quantum entanglement.
