From June 20 to 22, President ZHU Qingshi attended the Sixth Annual Leader's Meeting of Association of Pacific-Rim Universities (APRU) at the invitation of Prof. Robert M. Berdahl, President of the University of California at Berkeley.
Altogether 25 university Presidents from USA, Japan, Russia, Canada, New Zealand, Philippines, Chili, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and China were present at the conference. During the meeting, the presidents discussed such issues as "Organizing Research Universities", "Technology Transfer and Wealth Creation", "APRU Tele-Education", "Relation between APRU and APEC", "APRU Doctoral Conference", "APRU Membership Program", and "APRU: New Members and Cooperation". Also, President ZHU took part in the symposium of "Chang-Lien Tian's Legacy to Education and Society" honoring the former President of the University of California at Berkeley, one of the initiators of APRU.
Since its birth in June 1997, APRU has become one of the influential international organizations with 34 formal members. It has six members from China: Beijing University, Tsinghua University, Fudan Unviersity, Hongkong University of Science and Technology, Taiwan University, and the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).
