The 2005 Symposium of Microscale Material Science supported by Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale(prepared) holds the opening ceremony on August, 9th. There are leaders concerned at CAS, the peer divisions in China and eight members from International Academic Advisory Committee for National Laboratory attending the ceremony.

Academician Tang Shuxian, the director of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale delivers greeting speech to welcome guests and representatives’ attendance. The standing deputy director and USTC vice president Hou Jianguo briefly introduces the general situations and research work processing of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale. After the ceremony, the members of International Academic Advisory Committee for National Laboratory, Prof. Wilson Ho from University of California, Irvine and Prof. Wang Linzhong from George Science and Technology University in US give the inviting reports titled “Nanoscience with STM” and “Oxide Based Semiconducting and Piezoelectric Nanostructures-Materials, Chemistry, Physics and applications” respectively and trigger the strong reflections among the attendance.

The 2005 Symposium of Microscale Material Scienceis a significant move in the process of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale advancing to the internationalization and subject-crossing innovation. This conference will last four days. During the session, Prof. Toel Tanin from France CNRS, Prof. Tan-Ake Custafsson from Sweden KarolinskaInstitute, Prof. Carlo Motemagno from University of California, Los angels, Prof. Peter Zoller from Austria Innsbruck University, Prof. Steven. G. Louie from University of California, Berkeley, Prof. Flavio Toigo from Italy Padova University and experts from Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale will make inviting reports on Life Science, Biology, Quantum Information and Computing and other topics. Each research branch of the laboratory will report on the newly-released research results as well. Besides, symposium will develop deep and wide discussions on research fields, international co-operation, and the talented promotion and so on of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale.
