| Regulations Unveiled to Straighten Out Misconduct |
USTC has recently formulated a set of regulations on the academic morality management of graduates. The move is designed to foster high-level graduates and regulate academic performance to create a good academic environment and promote academic development and technology innovation. The regulations focus on various academic misconduct among some graduates, such as plagiarization and piracy of others' achievements, inviting others to write research papers or writing papers for others, juggling and forging research data, affixing names on others' research papers, swaying evaluation of research achievements, research papers, oral defenses for thesis papers and scholarship-granting, submitting one paper to several publishing houses, forging accepting letters of papers, cheating in various examination and corruption in the work as research assistances and teaching assistances. The regulations require the graduates to uphold the principle of honesty, self-discipline and teamwork spirit and obey the basic rules of academic research and activities. The regulations advocate the protection of intellectual property rights and the respect for others' work and rights. It also demands correct attitudes towards fame and interests in academic research. Under the regulation, any misconduct, once detected, will be punished most severely. Academic misconduct, reflecting the academic fickleness and the eagerness for quick success and instant benefits, emerges during the transformation to the market economy. The effect of the phenomenon has greatly affected the graduates who have just dipped into the research fields. Thus, the strengthening and the improvement of the regulations is a necessary measure to safeguard academic morality. | |
