U.S. Santa Fe Institute Vice President Prof. Wood visits USTC

On October 12, U.S. Santa Fe Institute (SFI) vice president, Prof. Chris C. Wood and the charge of international affairs, Ms. Shannon Larsen pay a short informal visit to USTC.
 

 
The vice president of USTC, Hou Jianguo meets the guests. He briefly introduces the history and achievements of USTC. Prof. Wood gives the information about the history, research trends and effects in international academic world of SFI. Shannon systematically introduces the large international cooperation net and "Summer School" project which supports young genius to engage in the cross-the-discipline research. Both sides exchange the experience about a series of research works with each other to the width and the detail.
 
The persons concerning of USTC Foreign Affairs Office company Prof. Wood and group visit Physics and Chemistry Center, as well as National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory. The scholars from SFI appreciate the achievements obtained by USTC.
 

At the night of the October 12, Shannon entertains the 2004 and 2005 USTC students wholly sponsored by SFI, including Zhang Sihai, Song Zhiwei, Zhu Jianxun, Xu Meng and Li Jinjin. Shannon attentatively hear the students' suggestions on how to improve international cooperation of summer school, in turn she gives many constructive advices on training students' abilities to carry out academic discussions in English. Their talks full of achievements develop in harmonious atmosphere.
