Recently the Degree Committee of the State Council has announced that 2005 regular assessment results of the authorized doctorate disciplines. Two first-leveled disciplines, Biomedical Engineering and Management Science and Project, accept the evaluations. They are both regarded as qualified by the experts, so they can continue to own the authority to confer the doctorate.
The main purpose of this assessment is to decide whether the disciplines are qualified or not (not to select the excellent ones). Disciplines which are regarded as qualified can continue to confer the doctorate according to the regulations; if the assessment result is "certain question exists, then it could be passed as qualified after being rectified and improved ", the committee will order the university to rectify and improve the disciplines and carry out the assessment again in two years; if the assessment result is "unqualified", the doctorate conferring right of these disciplines will not be authorized.
This assessment activity started in 2005. The assessment indexes are as follows, academic team, scientific research, teaching and personnel training, work conditions, management. The assessment includes self-assessment, basic state appraises and spotting doctor academic dissertations. The final appraise results will be confirmed by the discipline assessment review group from the State Council Degree Committee. |
